Behaviour

We aim to make every day count for our children where they thrive and build the cultural-capital they need to make aspirational choices about their own future.

It is a primary aim that every member of the school community feels valued and respected, and that each person is treated fairly. We are a caring community whose values are built on mutual respect and trust for all. We aim to create an environment in which everyone feels happy, safe and secure.

Greenwood is committed to the emotional mental health and well-being of our children, staff and parents/carers. We wish to evidence this in all aspects of school life – in our ethos, environment and curriculum, supporting the social, emotional and mental health of the whole school community.

A simple set of school agreements ensures clarity for all. Everyone in the school community is expected to respect and follow these agreements. The children are reminded of the agreements frequently and they are displayed in every classroom and in shared areas around school.

School Agreements - Greenwood Stars:

  • Stay safe
  • Take care of each other
  • Always do our best
  • Respectful of ourselves and our environment

Our School Agreements are underpinned by our School Values and it is recognised that in following our school agreements, our school values will be promoted.

School Values

1. Enjoyment

2. Confidence

3. Respect

4. Responsibility

5. Creativity

6. Aspiration

7. Perseverance

8. Pride

Rewards

It is a firm belief at Greenwood that children are rewarded for positive behaviour. This positive recognition reinforces the positivity that we expect from all in school.

We praise our children in a variety of ways:

  • Verbal praise and smiles (must be sincere, targeted and proportionate)
  • Whole class reward systems
  • Individual rewards
  • Star of the Week assembly
  • Golden Tickets

For more information, please look at the behaviour policy in the 'Key Information' tab.

Boosters

Booster sessions will take place throughout the week from 3:15pm to 4.00pm and mornings 8.30am to 9.00am

All of the adults are boostering the children on SPAG, Reading and Mathematics.

'Flexible-boosters' also take place on a daily basis during school time in afternoons to assist the children in their learning and help them achieve the objectives taught in lessons.

Homework

We must stress the importance of completing ALL the homework we ask your child to complete.

1. All children should read daily. Even if your child is a confident reader, they should be reading independently to encourage a love of books and a greater understanding of the written word. Children should record their daily reading in their reading record. In their home-school diary, children should record each read (1 per day) they do, children will receive rewards through the year depending on different checkpoints they meet while on their reading journey.

2. All children will receive spellings every two weeks in addition to printed tasks. These will be usually be in the home-school diary on a Friday and are linked to past spellings for the SATs and spelling patterns for Year Six. This is an important part of the Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar test (SPAG) (spelling being worth 20 marks out of 70 in the test). There are no weekly spelling tests for this academic year but children must still be exposed to the spellings and meanings must be discussed or researched as part of their weekly homework.

3. Each Friday, the children will receive a mixture of other homework on paper, which will be due to be completed by the following Friday.

Times Tables Rockstars

All children have a log on for Time Tables Rockstars. This is a multiplication skills online game that we have invested in to increase recall of up to 12x table. We create regular battles with other year groups and amongst Year 6 for this. Please support children playing at home. Children have their log in details in their reading diaries if they forget them, as well as Purple Mash log ins.

Physical Education (PE)

PE is on Tuesday afternoons each week with Mrs Aspinall.

Indoor PE kit is a white T-shirt, dark shorts (black or navy blue) and trainers or plimsolls.

Outdoor PE kit is a white T-shirt, dark jogging bottoms (black or navy blue), dark sweatshirt and trainers. Jewellery must not be worn on PE days.

If your child can not take part in PE for medical reasons a letter should be sent to Mrs Aspinall or their class teacher.
